Dear Manheim:
I wish I could give you a satisfactory answer. However, though I was in periodic exchange with Karoly [Mannheim], [2] I am badly informed about his activities, and have learned a good deal of news from the release in the New York Times. In particular I do not know of any publications after 1938, besides "Man and Society" and "Diagnosis of Our Time". [3] Some of the chapters in the latter book were published before as articles.

With regard to his general activity, you know, of course, that late in 1945 he was appointed Professor of Education in the Institute of Education at the University of London, as successor to Fred Clarke. [4] You also know that he was editor of the "International Library of Sociology and Social Reconstruction", published by Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co., Ltd.

I am afraid that I have not given you anything beyond that which you have known. If you want the information for any publication, you will have to write to Julia [Mannheim]. [5] I expect you know the address: 5, the Park, London, N.W. 11.

This was indeed a sad occasion for renewing our contact. I have not yet recovered from the shock.
