My Biography
By Sheelagh Manheim

I was born Sheelagh Graham Hope to an Irish mother and a Canadian father January 14, l943 in a small town called Oliver in British Columbia. Oliver is in a valley (the Okanagan Valley) which is the only desert in Canada. It is near the border with the United States of America and the area is a fruit and vineyard growing area. I lived in Vancouver, British Columbia for my early childhood and then moved back to the valley and lived on an orchard for my teenage years.

I went to the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia. There I got my B.A. with a triple major in French, English, and Psychology. I studied teaching for one year and received a certificate to teach high school children. I taught for one year before moving with my husband to Eugene, Oregon, where I pursued a doctorate in Educational Psychology with a major in Educational Testing and Measurements and Educational Research.

In summer 1971 I taught Tests and Measurements at the University of Indiana. We moved to Kansas City, in August of 1971. In the spring of 1972 I worked at a hospital doing psychological testing with children. At this same hospital, the Kansas University Medical Center, I did an internship in Clinical Child Psychology in 1971 to 1972. I was working with children with disabilities.

In 1973 I began a practice in child clinical psychology. I worked in this field until 1988 when I restricted my practice to adult psychology. (I had done work in Jungian psychotherapy for ten years.) During the time I worked with children I gave lectures in schools and churches on topics of interest to parents. I was also a school psychologist for two private schools.

Currently, I am practicing Jungian Psychotherapy and when I give lectures I give lectures and workshops for adults on topics related to Jungian theory. I am on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Jung of Kansas City and am in charge of bringing speakers to Kansas City, Missouri, and organizing seminars lead by psychotherapist in the area.

In 1964 I married C. Neil Bull. We had two children: a daughter Catriona Hulley Bull born in 1972 and a daughter Hillary Alexis Bull (now Urich) born in 1976. Neil Bull and I were divorced in 1990.

I have written a few articles. Two articles were published from my dissertation. One article was on the use of a child's drawings to analyze the child's problems. I wrote six columns for a journal about twins on parenting of multiple children.
