Sat. July 5, ´47.
At home almost all day yesterday, safe for a walk with father through Schönbrunn. Then at 6h to Erhart´s reception. On the way there I met John & Kamitz. K. insisted that he had always been faithful, that he could not understand why I would have nothing to do with him etc. I broke off & said I would come later. At the Embassy a nice garden party with excellent Buffet. Mrs Dulles, Mr Dodge. Prof Cohn (Harvard) & many others. Very nice. They all insist that they know still too little about certain Austrians e.g. Mayer (with whom they want no dealings) Draxler & others. They would like to hear more from me about all Austrian problems & persons. Then I went to Dr Klausberger wher app. 10 persons had a weak & confused discussion about current problems. Nemschak spoke flowery, Kolb asked a few questions. Kamitz spoke too etc. A communist was worried about a possible crisis in the US! There was a great aimlessness about them all. I asked what the 3 chief econ. problems were but got no answer. It would be hard to give a resumé. They were al for planning, until I asked why no alternative. They were shocked to hear that the Waldorf Astoria is a larger bus. than the Alpine. etc. I would hate to be involved in this kind of discussions. When I compare them with those of the Goldenweiser Seminar - what a difference in the kind of problems treated. Actions on the Aust. level become almost immediately personal problems, not dealings with forces. This makes it almost impossible to deal with some problems on a scientific level.
