Sat. July 11. – Haberler was Pg was taken into custody Oct- Xmas 1945 & sat for weeks without having a hearing. When he came out he was covered with lice. Then a law suit followed which was dropped 2 weeks ago because no indictment could be formulated. But he lost his job & has a small income. Am. are in his apartment. A sad story & he has paid for supporting the Nazi nonsense. Whether he still believes the ideology I don´t know. It was not quite pleasant. Maria is at the Rennhof & takes care of Austrian children in Switzerland. Ludolf is OK in Innsbruck, Franz was Pg & is dismissed in Kufstein. Gerhard did not ask much about Gottfried; they practically broke because of Nazism. Now he would like to be received again by Gruber.

On the street Artur Hoetzl (XV. Berngasse 5) saw me & came running. Also ex Pg & dismissed. Most, perh. 90% of my class from Hernals were Pgs!! Now many are dismissed or reduced or demoted. A fine bunch. Schedlmayr dead, Larsen Pg & dismissed, nothing known about Kratzmann. There were no lumina in that group, neither among teachers nor pupils. I always felt that I was wasting much time there. What could one have learned from really good teachers!

Yesterday I saw Mrs Kaan. 78. Why her daughters did not come to see her, I cannot understand. She is allright but as always blown up about everybody connected with her family. Her son-in-l.- Schaumann has been called to Innsbruck as a.o.P. at S 700.- p. month; = $ 7.- ! (or even = $ 70.-!). He is one of the co-discoverers of a substitute for morphium.

Than at the Regina Buchanan & Moseley turned up; They had just arrived. First I dined with Goldschmidt & then we joined them in Oliver´s room & also with Ginzberg. O. is going back to the States on Sunday. The enormous room was Himmler´s when in Vienna – fine view of the Votivplatz, Univ. etc & it seemed a great city. Much talk about Aust. but not much new. I said one should reserve 1-2 Mill $ for education, establish spec. training courses for gov. officials, so that young men can soon replace the old or the Nazis now employed faute de mieux. Also one should abolish occup. costs for all. France & GB would consent under the Marshall plan. They seem to have tried in a timid way. Norman wonders what could be done here. We shall talk more about this.
