Berlin. 1. August 1947

Arrived here yesterday 2h by plane from Frankfurt; had travel orders from Mr Bennett, was fetched from Tempelhof by car & brought to Harnack House; i.e., I am VIP (!). So far all very interesting. My next moves are in doubt. I think I shall go to Kiel, Copenhagen & then to England, leaving Rome for the end.

But more about Frankfurt, although too much happens to write down everything.

Last Sunday with Vossler at Wolfsgarten. He lives splendidly & yet in poverty; has aged much, does not look healthy, a deep lined face but still a fine man. He is too 45 years.

His new wife came later; nice; reminded me of Sally McAlpin; is a born Princess Solms-Lisch, related to everyone, especially the Hessen family. At luncheon there was also Prince Heinrich of Hessen & his little sister, both children of P. Mafalda who was killed by the Nazis at Buchenwald. They are thus grandchildren of the former King of Italy. There were also Ledeburis, Schlieffen, & later princes of Braunschweig, the Grand duke etc.
