The Marienthal Workmen’s Clubhouse

The building most mentioned in the Marienthal study apart from the factory is the Marienthal Workmen’s Clubhouse, which was built by Marienthal workers by themselves in 1926. Since that time it was the meeting point of Marienthal and was also used by the researchers of the Marienthal study as observation post. Next to the Marienthal Workmen’s Clubhouse the Clubhouse of the Children’s Friends was erected, also in 1926, as meeting point of the social democratic youth organization. The two buildings were the only ones on the grounds of Gramatneusiedl that have not been in the possession of the Marienthal textile factory.
