The Factory During World War II

The Marienthal textile factory was owned by the German Fritz Ries (1907–1977) from 1939 until the firm of Adolf Ahlers (1899–1968) from Herford-Everdissen (Germany) took over in 1940. The factory employed around 130 people, mainly female workers, until it was shut down in 1943. Afterward, a supply house for airplane components was put in place on the factory grounds. More successful economically was the largest (since 1930) enterprise of Gramatneusiedl: the Agricultural Corporation of Gramatneusiedl. It moved to the Marienthal factory grounds in 1939/40 and rebuilt the factory buildings as stores for grain and also installed a repair station for tractors and agricultural machines until 1949.
