Marienthal – Gramatneusiedl During the 1920s
After
the years of hunger following World War I, Gramatneusiedl boomed
enormously beginning in the middle of the 1920s. For example, the
village was electrified in 1925, the first street was paved in 1926, and
since 1925, together with the neighbouring communities,
the Piesting and the Fischa river were regulated in order to counteract repeated
flooding. This prosperity of Gramatneusiedl after World War I was mainly
caused by the Marienthal textile factory. But this development abruptly
ended when the factory was shut down on February 12, 1930.
